Drop-off sites will collect unused prescription and over-the-counter medicines


Several Wichita area law enforcement agencies, including the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, are offering drop-off sites for unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs as part of the “National Take Back” initiative by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Several area law enforcement agencies, including the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, are offering drop-off sites for unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs as part of the “National Take Back” initiative by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The drop-off sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will staff drop-off sites at the Sedgwick County Zoo at 5555 W. Zoo Blvd., the Household Hazardous Waste Center at 801 W. Stillwell and the Oaklawn Activity Center at 4904 S. Clifton.

Here’s a list of other departments that are sponsoring drop-off sites and where:

The Haysville Police Department: 200 W. Grand in Haysville.

The Maize Police Department: Maize City Hall at 10100 W. Grady Ave. in Maize.

The South Hutchinson Police Department: 10 E. Blanchard St. in South Hutchinson.

The Belle Plaine Police Department: Wellington Police Department at 200 N. C St. in Wellington, Conway Springs Police Department at 310 W. Spring in Conway Springs and Oxford Police Department at 121 S. Sumner in Oxford.

The Augusta Department of Public Safety: Cooper Drug Store, 509 State St., Augusta.

Harvey County Sheriff’s Office: 120 E. Seventh St. in Newton.

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office will have sites at the Walmart parking lots at 2202 Pike Road in Winfield and 2701 N. Summit in Arkansas City.

The Kingman County Sheriff’s Office will accept prescriptions at the Kingman County Law Enforcement Center at 120 N. Spruce in Kingman.

Syringes and injectable drugs will not be accepted at any of the sites.
