Wichita police have released the names of two people who were killed in separate shootings over the weekend.

Illya Mitchell, 51, of Wichita, was killed Friday evening at the 2200 block of North Grove. He was shot in the head after he had been involved in a physical disturbance with an unknown person, police say. The initial shooting call came at 8:11 p.m., and emergency responders found Mitchell dead at the scene.

Jamarious Carter, 27, of Wichita, was shot in the neck in a house in the 2100 block of South Palisade. Someone shot into the house. The shooting was reported around 3 a.m. Saturday. The suspect left on foot, police said, and Carter died after being taken to a hospital.

Officer Charley Davidson said neither shooting is believed to be random, and the shootings are the Wichita’s 31st and 32nd homicides of 2018. He asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or WPD detectives at 316-268-4407.
