A corrections officer at Hutchinson Correctional facility hospitalized after being stabbed by an inmate at the prison has been identified.

Prison spokesman Dirk Moss says correctional officer Tim Russell suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the stabbing, which happened at 8:28 a.m. Wednesday. Russell is a five-year veteran of the Hutchinson Correctional facility.

Moss says the attack happened in the cell block of the main building but he could not provide any other details. Russell was rushed to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center by EMS.

Moss said one inmate was placed in the segregation unit after the stabbing. A weapon was found on the scene.

Moss says the prison was never in lockdown and it is running normally. However, counselors are on-site to assist staff who may have been affected.
