Demolition crew begins to tear down west-side Palace theater
Workers with demolition equipment began Thursday morning to tear down the Palace Theatre in west Wichita.
The theater at 535 S. Ridge closed April 8. It had been subject of closure rumors since shortly after Warren Theatres sold to Regal Entertainment Group last May.
In January, the Eagle reported that Cracker Barrel is interested in a restaurant location on the Palace site, near West Kellogg and Ridge Road.
The bright-pink Palace West opened in the summer of 1989, offering movies for $1 a ticket. It was a popular spot for second-run movies and retro screenings.
