Wichita Park and Recreation mascot has a new name

Buddy the Bison is no more.

Because that name is already trademarked, Wichita’s Park and Recreation Department is changing the name of its mascot to Barry. The department introduced its mascot last month as a way to raise awareness about the benefits of outdoor recreation and promote park and recreation events.

Director Troy Houtman said the name was changed to avoid trademark infringement. Barry the Bison will make appearances at events, sports, games, and other occasions.
