Register for Wichita Eagle Kids Fishing Clinic
Registrations are being accepted for the 14th annual Wichita Eagle Kids Fishing Clinic on June 13. For the first time, those registrations can be done via e-mail.
The clinic, for ages 12 or under, is at Chisholm Creek Park, near 29th Street North and Woodlawn, and is again in conjunction with the Great Plains Nature Center’s annual Walk With Wildlife.
The Kids Fishing Clinic is held in partnership with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, with assistance from the Flatland Fly Fishers Club.
The fishing is at Island Pond, just west of the Nature Center. All equipment is provided. All participating kids must be accompanied by an adult. Experienced volunteers will be on hand to offer assistance.
Kids will be assigned 30-minute time slots between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Requests for morning or afternoon sessions will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration deadline is May 29, or when 350 kids have been registered.
Registration forms can be found in newspaper ads or at The Eagle’s front counter at 825 E. Douglas. Registrations will be accepted by e-mail. Please send child’s name, age, a mailing address and preference for morning or afternoon classes to psmith@wichitaeagle.com.
Confirmations will be mailed out beginning about May 27.
The fishing clinic is free, though there is a $2 admission charge to enter the Walk With Wildlife, which features hundreds of wild creatures, often from 50 or more species, on a well-maintained half-mile trail. Designed to be family-friendly, volunteers assist guests in viewing most of the animals from only a few yards away.
