Funeral set for mom, 4 children killed in Pratt fire

The funeral for a Pratt mother and her four children who were killed in a fire last month has been set, according to their family.

The funeral for Charee Wheatley, 22, and her children — Reece, 6; Timmy, 2; River 1; and 3-month-old Harley — will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Pratt.

A fire trapped Wheatley and her children in the basement of their home near 2nd and Austin streets at around 9 a.m. on Jan. 25.

Wheatley had been unresponsive when she was rescued and died two days after the fire.

“Charee you were my rock and an amazing mother and you and your babies didn't deserve this,” Kristina Bates, Wheatley’s sister, posted on Facebook last week.

Wheatley’s father, Craig Bates, spoke about the children the day after the fire. He said Reece was the active one. Timmy liked to fidget with things — mostly straws. River liked to be picked up by her family and would spread her attention around evenly. Harley wasn’t a fussy baby and had just started focusing on things and making noises.
