Haven coach dies in fiery crash on interstate
A 51-year-old Reno County man was killed in a fiery crash in McPherson County early Thursday morning.
David Chamberlain Jr. was southbound on I-135 when for some unknown reason, he rear-ended an RV driven by a 27-year-old Wichita man, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Chamberlain’s car went into a ditch, proceeded through a KDOT fence and caught fire, the report says.
He died at the scene. The crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. near Navajo Road.
Chamberlain was an assistant basketball coach at Haven High School. His death was announced Thursday morning by the school district.
A two vehicle crash that occurred shortly before 3:30am has resulted in one fatality this morning on I-135 approximately 4 miles north of McPherson. No road blockage or other traffic issues at this time. Information will be posted on KHP's crash log shortly.

Grief counselors were made available for students at Haven.
The fatal crash triggered an outpouring of support on social media.
