‘Rolling roadblocks’ to slow turnpike traffic in Wichita area
Kansas Turnpike travelers in the Wichita area should anticipate rolling roadblocks on Thursday and Monday as construction work continues on East Kellogg.
Seven girders for a new bridge crossing over the turnpike at mile marker 52.4 in east Wichita will be installed during this time period, according to the Kansas Turnpike Authority. The bridge is part of the new south frontage road that is being built in the Greenwich segment of the East Kellogg Improvement plan.
Motorists can expect rolling roadblocks both north and south from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Thursday and Monday between mile marker 42 and mile marker 61, turnpike officials say. That’s from near the South Wichita toll plaza to an area south of the Towanda Service Area.
The rolling roadblocks will be used to slow traffic to approximately 25 miles per hour to allow for construction without actually closing the road, officials said. Drivers should allow extra travel time on these days or seek alternate routes.
