Kellogg, I-235 to close in west Wichita again this weekend

West Kellogg’s going to be closed again this weekend.

U.S. 54 will be closed at I-235 on Friday night, Kansas Department of Transportation spokesman Tom Hein said in a prepared statement. Eight steel bridge beams for the ramp linking northbound I-235 with the westbound lanes of Kellogg will be placed over the traffic lanes.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Kellogg and on I-235 at the interchange at 5 p.m. Friday, Hein said, with complete closure of Kellogg and the interchange by 7 p.m.

Crews hope to reopen traffic on westbound Kellogg by Saturday afternoon, with all lanes open to traffic on Kellogg and I-235 by 6 a.m. Monday. Detours will be posted, Hein said.

Motorists can expect another round of Kellogg closures the first weekend of February, he said. The work is part of ongoing work to redo the I-235/Kellogg interchange, which began in 2015; it is scheduled to be complete in 2019.
