Sumner County deputy injured in crash
A Sumner County Sheriff’s Office deputy was pinned in his vehicle after a rollover crash on K-15 near Mulvane Tuesday night.
The crash happened just after 8:30 p.m., about two miles southeast of Mulvane, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The report doesn’t identify 49-year-old Steven Williams as a deputy, but dispatchers confirmed his identity late Tuesday.
Williams, in an Explorer SUV, and a van — occupied by a 64-year-old man and 59-year-old woman — were both southbound on K-15. The deputy began to slow and moved to the shoulder. The van switched lanes to pass the deputy, but Williams made a U-turn and was hit by the van, the report says.
He was taken to a Wichita hospital and is in fair condition. The couple was also taken to the hospital with possible injuries.
