Man approaches woman, asks to take her young daughter to McDonald’s

A woman and her 9-year-old daughter were walking in the 600 block of North Broadway at 5 p.m. Friday when a man approached and asked if he could take the girl to McDonald’s, police said Saturday.

The woman said no, and she and her daughter were walking away when the girl heard someone behind them and turned around to see the man bringing a small knife up toward the back of the woman’s head, police Sgt. Brian Sigman said. The girl warned her mother, and they ran. The man took off on a small moped, Sigman said. The woman and her daughter were not injured but were shaken up, Sigman said. No suspect was in custody.
