Three Wichitans killed in crash at Butler-Greenwood county line
Three Wichitans were killed in a crash Friday afternoon along the Butler-Greenwood county line.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 2014 Ford Focus, while heading east on U.S. 54 about 20 miles east of El Dorado, swerved into the westbound lanes and then struck an eastbound 2013 Toyota pickup. Three of the four people in the car died. They are identified in a highway patrol crash report as 45-year-old driver Charla Straws, 35-year-old Caesare Smith and 48-year-old Sonja Roubideaux.
A third passenger in the Ford – a 21-year-old Wichita man – and the 70-year-old Madison, Kan., man driving the pickup were hospitalized in Wichita, the highway patrol said.
Debris from the collision hit a third vehicle, but that driver was not hurt.
The highway patrol said it was unclear why the Ford swerved out of its lane. The crash happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Friday.
