‘Opportunity’ conference on Saturday free to boys 14 to 18
A local gang-prevention program is holding a conference and luncheon Saturday that’s free to boys ages 14 to 18.
The sixth annual “Developing Every Man’s Opportunity” conference runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Kansas, 2400 Opportunity Drive in Wichita. David Gilkey, co-founder of the nonprofit presenting the event, said its goal is to bring together men and boys in the community to heal relationships and provide networking opportunities.
Discussion topics include jail and prison, the value of education, and fatherhood. The keynote speaker will be artist, actor and author Lamont Carey.
Adult tickets are available at the door for $20 each. Lunch will be catered by Outback Steakhouse.
The conference is an event of Do You Want to Live or Die?, a gang-prevention and mentoring program of nonprofit Rise Up for Youth.
