19-year-old dies in crash after hitting deer on Thanksgiving Day
A 19-year-old Attica woman died after hitting a deer on U.S. 281 in Barber County on Thanksgiving Day.
Gracie Burenheide was driving northbound as a 64-year-old from Medicine Lodge was driving southbound at 6:16 p.m. A deer entered the path of the southbound vehicle and was hit, causing it to go airborne, a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol says.
The deer then hit Burenheide’s car, causing the car to go into a ditch.
Burenheide was killed. Her passenger, a 22-year-old woman from Medicine Lodge, was taken to the hospital with injuries, the report says.
The driver of the second vehicle and his 60-year-old passenger were not injured.
