This city is home to Kansas’ highest percentage of college grads — and binge drinkers
While Kansas’ drunkest city is home to the state’s largest share of adults with bachelor’s degrees, it is also home to the state’s largest share of excessive drinkers.
In a study to identify the drunkest city in each state, 24/7 Wall St. determined that Lawrence — home to KU — is the drunkest city in Kansas.
“Heavier drinking metro areas also tend to be relatively well educated,” the report said. Of the 50 metro areas that were named a state’s drunkest city, 34 are home to a larger share of adults with bachelor’s degrees than their respective state as a whole.
In Lawrence, 52 percent of adults have a bachelor’s degree and 22.2 percent of adults binge or heavily drink, 24/7 Wall St. reported.
Lawrence is in the top 10 percent of metropolitan areas nationwide with a high amount of excessive drinkers. About 18 percent of adults in the U.S. excessively drink, according to 24/7 Wall St.
To identify the drunkest city in each state, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the percentage of men and women over 18 who have reported binge or heavy drinking in each state’s metropolitan areas. The report was published on Monday.
