Andale man in critical condition after being struck by SUV
A 21-year-old man was in critical condition after being struck by an SUV southwest of Andale early Tuesday evening.
The man was crossing the street from his house on 53rd Street east of 263rd Street at around 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by the vehicle, said Sgt. Benjamin Blick of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
Blick said the driver of the SUV did not have enough time to avoid hitting the man, who was crossing the street to pick up mail.
A witness said the SUV was not traveling over the speed limit of 55 mph, he said.
“(The driver) stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” Blick said.
The 21-year-old was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in critical condition.
No citations have been issued and no one had been arrested as of Tuesday night, Blick said.
“Obviously the case will be reviewed,” he said. “I couldn’t really comment as to whether there will be (a citation) issued in the future until the case is reviewed.”
