Jim and Cathy Hoy of Emporia receive ‘Friends of the Flint Hills’ award
Jim and Cathy Hoy have been named as Friends of the Flint Hills by the Flint Hills Discovery Center in Manhattan.
The Hoys, who have land near Cassoday, were recognized Sunday “as the epitome of stewardship of the Flint Hills and richly deserving of this recognition,” said Bruce Snead, President of the Discovery Center Foundation in a prepared news release.
The award is presented annually.
The Hoy family ranchland is on a conservation easement with the Ranchland Trust of Kansas – ensuring their Flying H ranch land will remain in prairie grass forever.
Jim Hoy is a Kansas historian and author of numerous western folklore and historic articles. He was instrumental in helping plan the development of the Discovery Center. The Hoys live in rural Emporia.
