Kellogg freeway to be skinnied down Thursday and Saturday
The morning commute from west Wichita on Kellogg will take a hit Thursday as the Kansas Department of Transportation closes a couple of lanes through the I-235 interchange construction zone.
The Kellogg freeway, also known as US-54, will be narrowed from three lanes to two in the construction area, making space for road workers to remove temporary framework that is part of rebuilding the I-235 overcrossing.
The right lane in each direction is scheduled for closure from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Saturday, Kellogg will be skinnied down even more, to one lane each direction for more bridgework over the freeway.
And, on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, there will be a series of lane closures both day and night to allow for the installation of overhead highway signs.
There’s some holiday cheer on the horizon for West Street though.
The eastbound offramp from Kellogg to West, closed since May, is due to reopen before Thanksgiving.
That will put it back in play in time for the Black Friday shopping day at the Towne West Shopping Center and neighboring businesses.
