Pratt schools closed Tuesday after threatening email received

The Pratt school district will be closed Tuesday after several administrative and support staff received a threatening email late Monday.

“Your child’s safety is paramount in this district,” Superintendent Suzan Patton said in a note to parents on USD 382’s website. “We have made every effort to safeguard your children so they have a positive learning experience. Even with all the safeguards, there are still things that happen beyond our control.”

Patton said the Pratt Police Department was called immediately and the district enacted its emergency response plan and made contact with the email service provider to determine the origins of the threat.

“With the information, administration determined we needed more time to investigate the origins and nature of the threat,” she said.

Monday night’s Scholars’ Bowl was canceled as well as classes Tuesday.

“We have great kids and staff at USD 382; it saddens me that threats like the one we are dealing with steal valuable time and effort away from students’ school experiences,” Patton said. “However, the principals and I will do our very best to keep our schools safe learning environments.”
