Update: Franklin students to remain at Allison today
Franklin Elementary School, 214 S. Elizabeth, was evacuated Monday morning due to smoke in the building, the Wichita school district said.
Students were evacuated to nearby Allison Middle School, 221 S. Seneca, and will remain there for the day.
Afternoon pre-K classes at Franklin are canceled, Susan Arensman with USD 259 said.
Scanner traffic indicated smoke was seen in a hallway and crews found a small fire in a room.
No injuries were reported and all students are safe, the school district said.
The district said that Franklin students would remain at Allison for the rest of the day. Parents are to pick up their children at Allison at 4:30 p.m. There will be no latchkey Monday.
