Fire heavily damages Haysville home
A Haysville home was partially destroyed in a fire at around noon Friday.
Sedgwick County Fire Battalion Chief Ray Hensley said when firefighters arrived to the 200 block of Spencer Drive, they saw heavy smoke coming from all sides of the house and a fire in the back.
“There’s quite a bit of damage to the backside of the house, in a bedroom,” he said. “It’s probably going to be a total loss to the backside of the house.”
It was immediately unknown how many people were inside the house, but no one was injured.
A city of Haysville employee ran into the house and was able to rescue a dog, authorities have said.
Not all pets have been accounted for, he said. Firefighters were seen bringing out what appeared to be a birdcage that they covered with a sheet.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Spencer Drive is off Main Street, which is open to traffic. Spencer will remained closed for a portion of the afternoon, Hensley said.
