Two burned after Wichita garage fire

Two people were burned after their garage caught fire just before 8 p.m. Thursday.

The fire happened in the 600 block of North Terrace, near Central and Oliver, according to the Wichita Fire Department.

Lt. Jose Ocadiz said a father and son were working on a car. They tried changing the fuel pump, but dropped the fuel tank, which hit a work light that was lit next to them. Heat from the light sparked the fire, Ocadiz said.

Both were taken to the hospital with critical injuries from burns, Ocadiz said.

The fire didn’t spread to the house and damage in the garage is estimated at $20,000.
