Wichita man among two people killed in U.S. 54 collision

Two people — one of them a Wichita man — were killed in a two-vehicle collision in western Kansas Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 54 about eight miles northeast of Minneola, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. An F150 pickup was traveling west in the eastbound lane when it hit an eastbound semi head-on. Both vehicles came to rest on the south shoulder of U.S. 54.

The driver of the pickup, Andrew Manning, 34, of Wichita, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A passenger in the pickup, Ashonia Hollingsworth, 27, of Winfield, also died in the crash, according to the highway patrol.

The driver of the semi, 72-year-old James Kopp of Albert Lea, Minn., was injured and taken to Minneola District Hospital. A passenger in the semi, 58-year-old Tommy Wilkie of Apple Valley, Minn., was taken to Minneola District Hospital for evaluation.
