Man jumps from Douglas Avenue bridge

Douglas Avenue was closed over the Arkansas River for more than an hour after a man was spotted on the edge of the bridge threatening to jump, authorities said.

The man ultimately jumped just before 1:25 p.m. and was placed into custody, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor said. No information on his condition was available yet.

The first call to 911 about the man came in at about 12:20 p.m. and Douglas was closed as a precaution 10 minutes later. Douglas reopened shortly afterward.
