Workers spent Thursday cleaning up a grain spill after three grain cars derailed north of downtown Wichita early Thursday morning.

The cars derailed shortly before 5:15 a.m. near 13th and Santa Fe, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher said. While no injuries were reported, the train and another stopped behind it effectively blocked most east-west streets between 21st to the north and Harry to the south during the morning commute.

By noon, those streets were no longer blocked.

As of 7:30 p.m., the derailed cars had been removed, though crews were still working on the tracks. Regular train traffic was flowing in the area.

The derailed cars were carrying wheat. The cause of the derailment has not been released.
