Identity released of driver killed Saturday on 143rd Street East

Authorities on Tuesday revealed the identity of the man who was killed in a one-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.

Clell J. Solomon, 52, of Wichita was traveling north on 143rd Street East north of 21st Street when the crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the 2300 block of 143rd, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Lt. Lin Dehning said.

“This case is still under investigation, but preliminary indications from the scene indicate that excessive speed was a factor in this crash,” Dehning said in an e-mail response to questions.

The sports car drifted off the road, crossed a ditch and struck a fence before crossing a gravel driveway and hitting a utility pole’s guy wire, authorities said at the scene Saturday. The car rolled multiple times before coming to a rest. Solomon was pronounced dead at the scene.
