Young Professionals to host sales tax forum

Young Professionals of Wichita is hosting a forum on the upcoming vote on increasing the sales tax by 1 cent per dollar, according to a news release.

The forum will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the Wichita Marriott, 9100 Corporate Hills Drive.

The proposed sales tax will total about $400 million over five years and go toward funding water, transit, street maintenance and a job development fund. It will expire after five years.

Representatives from organizations on both sides of the issue – Coalition for a Better Wichita, which is against the tax, and Yes Wichita, which is for the tax – will each speak for 15 minutes. Afterward, there will be 30 minutes for questions from the audience.

Advance registration is requested. To register, visit www.ypwichita.org/calendar/wichita-sales-tax-referendum-procon-forum/.
