Neighbors packing pistols and duct tape help Albuquerque homeowner with burglar

File photo

An Albuquerque couple used duct tape to help detain a burglar who had broken into a neighbor’s house earlier this week, officials say.

Police say the suspect broke into the house on Sunday, took a beer from the refrigerator and tried on a jacket belonging to the homeowner, according to an account on the site lawnewz.com. An alarm system alerted the homeowner, who was able to watch the burglar on his phone.

He called his neighbors, who grabbed pistols and duct tape and waited for the homeowner to arrive. Once he did, they went in and held the suspect at gunpoint, wrapping him up in duct tape.

They then carried him outside and waited for police to arrive.

The suspect, who has been linked to at least one other burglary, is being held in jail without bond.
