Man found unresponsive in south side apartment pool has died
A 26-year-old Wichita man died Monday night after he went under the water in an apartment complex pool and didn’t come back up on his own.
Wichita police, fire crews and emergency medical services personnel were called to the 3900 block of South Seneca by a 20-year-old woman who had been swimming with the man at about 9 p.m. Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said the woman tried to help him before she dialed 911.
The man was taken to a Wichita hospital, but revival efforts were fruitless. He died there at 11:11 p.m., according to police accounts.
Woodrow said it’s still unclear exactly what caused the man’s death, but he was being treated for drowning by first responders.
His name was not released Tuesday by police. He lived at the apartment complex, Woodrow said.
