The condition of a 2-year-old Wichita girl is improving after she was critically injured from being locked in a hot car, a police spokesman said Tuesday.

A police report about the injury, at a home in the 300 block of South Belmont, said an officer reported a 2-year-old girl “becoming overheated and losing consciousness after being locked in a vehicle.”

Police are still investigating the circumstances, department spokesman Officer Paul Cruz said Tuesday.

On Monday, police said the child was rushed to a Wichita hospital in critical condition after being found by her father Monday afternoon in the family’s car.

The girl and her siblings had apparently been playing hide and seek, police Sgt. Jesse Hancock said Monday evening.
