The weather won’t be perfect this holiday weekend in southern Kansas, but it will be hard to beat.

There’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Wichita area from late Friday night into early Saturday afternoon, forecasters say, before skies clear and pleasant weather settles in.

“It’s looking like really nice, five-star weather,” said Chris Jakub, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wichita. “Winds won’t be that strong, temperatures won’t be too hot.”

Highs will be in the low 80s Friday and Saturday, then cool into the 70s on Sunday and Monday. Winds will be light and variable, sometimes pushing into the teens.

“We’re due for some nicer weather for a change,” Jakub said.

No severe weather is anticipated with any showers, forecasters said.
