Sheriff’s official offers more details in baby’s death
A Sedgwick County sheriff’s official provided a few more details Wednesday about an infant who appears to have died from an accidental suffocation at a Bel Aire home.
Preliminary information indicates that the 4-month-old girl was sleeping on a basement couch with her 18-year-old mother, who woke up at about 3:10 a.m. Thursday and found that her daughter was not breathing, sheriff’s Lt. David Mattingly said.
When deputies arrived at the home, they found an EMS crew trying to revive the girl, who was staying at the home with her mother. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The state is investigating the death because it occurred at a foster home, although the girl was not in foster care, officials said Tuesday.
