Smoke plume near Wichita a controlled burn, official says
A thick plume of dark smoke visible from downtown Wichita on Tuesday afternoon was from a controlled burn north of the city, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor said.
The burn was done shortly before 3:30 p.m. in the area of 85th Street east of Valley Center, Wind speeds were low enough to allow for controlled burns in the area.
