Construction begins in Kechi for new Kansas Highway Patrol headquarters
The Kansas Highway Patrol broke ground on its new Troop F headquarters building in Kechi on Tuesday.
The $3.5 million building, which is 22,000 square feet, will also be home to Kansas Bureau of Investigation offices.
“The facility comes at no cost to taxpayers, as it is all being funded through asset forfeiture funds,” Lt. Joshua Kellerman said in a statement.
The new headquarters will be at 1900 E. Tigua, a new street just north of K-254 between Woodlawn and Rock Road. Gov. Sam Brownback joined highway patrol superintendent Col. Ernie Garcia and other dignitaries at the event.
Troop F encompasses 13 counties in south-central Kansas, including the Wichita metropolitan area.
The new headquarters should be ready for occupancy in July, Kellerman said.
