The woman who was pulled from a pond at Harrison Park after she tried to retrieve her dog on thin ice was released from Wesley Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon, a hospital operator said.

Kathryn Cowley, 45, fell through the ice into the pond around noon Tuesday as she “chased her dog across a frozen pond,” according to a police report on the incident. Cindy Webb and Apryl Cornell, two nurses walking in the park at the time, saw her in the water.

Cornell called 911 while Webb began talking to Cowley to keep her alert while rescuers were dispatched to the park.

Authorities said she was in the water less than 10 minutes before she was pulled from the water by firefighters. Her dog, Misty, was also rescued from the water and taken to a local veterinary clinic for observation.

Cornell said she’s been a bit overwhelmed by all the attention she and Webb have received after doing what was the natural thing to do in that situation.

“I’m glad we were able to be there,” she said.

One day soon, she said, they would like to visit Cowley and Misty and say hello.
