Starting Friday night at 7, two ramps at Central and I-235 in west Wichita will be closed for eight weeks as part of construction work on the two flyover bridges.

Both ramps are on the north side of Central – one for northbound entrance onto I-235 and the other the southbound exit off the bypass. They are expected to reopen sometime around mid-October, Kansas Department of Transportation spokesman Tom Hein said.

The work is part of the $35 million project to construct two flyover bridges over the Big Ditch to connect I-235 and 13th. The contract calls for the project to be completed by Nov. 26, which is the day before Thanksgiving.

The ramps are are being closed so deceleration and acceleration lanes to and from the bridges can be completed. Central traffic wanting to go north on I-235 will be directed to West Street and then to an entrance off Zoo Boulevard.
