Police: Man killed when gun accidentally discharges in Haysville
A 21-year-old man who died Sunday in Haysville was the victim of an accidental discharge of a gun, Haysville police said late Monday afternoon.
Haysville officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Lonna at about 6:30 p.m. following the report of a shooting, officials said. That’s near Broadway and 79th Street South.
The victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, where he was pronounced dead.
“After interviewing witnesses, it appears that the shooting occurred as a result of an accidental discharge from a handgun,” Haysville Police Chief Jeff Whitfield said in a prepared statement.
The victim was a friend of the family that lives on Lonna, Whitfield said. Police have not released his name.
Evidence in the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for review, Whitfield said.
