Inmate dies at Sedgwick County Jail
An inmate at the Sedgwick County Jail was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive on Saturday, according to a release from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
The 53-year-old inmate, according to the release, was found unresponsive in his cell at about 11:10 a.m. on Saturday and was pronounced dead about 35 minutes later.
The preliminary cause of death is thought to be suicide, according to the release. As of Monday morning, the identity of the man – who was booked into the jail on Nov. 15 on felony charges – was being withheld at the request of the man’s family.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Investigation Division have been notified of the death. The case marks the fourth in-custody death at the facility this year.
