Police: Man accidentally shoots friend in car
A 21-year-old man was shot in the back early Sunday morning by a friend.
Four people were in the same vehicle at Second and Estelle, west of Hillside, shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Ed Brower, Wichita Police Department spokesman.
Two witnesses in the car – a 23-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man – told police that the man was driving the car and had stopped at the intersection when a friend, a 24-year-old man, was handling a gun and it accidentally discharged, shooting the driver in the back.
The 21-year-old man was admitted to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition, Brower said.
Wichita police officers interviewed his friend who shot the gun and later booked him into custody under suspicion of aggravated battery with a firearm.
