VA to host Pearl Harbor event, town hall meeting
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a veterans town hall meeting to provide feedback on veterans operations and programs.
The meeting will be 1 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center Auditorium, 5500 E. Kellogg, Building 4.
It will follow the 75th anniversary observation of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, scheduled to begin at 10:55 a.m. in the same room. The Pearl Harbor observation will include a color guard and 14 to 17 World War II veterans. No local Pearl Harbor survivors are expected to attend the Wichita service. Families of Pearl Harbor veterans have been invited to attend, according to Jim Denison, who is organizing the event. It is estimated 110 Pearl Harbor survivors across the nation will be in attendance at events on Dec. 7 in Hawaii.
The town hall meeting is being hosted by the Dole VA Medical Center and the Wichita Regional Office. There will be a regional office benefits claims clinic at the meeting, in which veterans can receive help on claims and get questions answered.
Parking will be available on the VA grounds, according to a release issued by the VA.
