Fire causes $150,000 in damage at west Wichita home
Residents of a west Wichita home will come back from out of town to approximately $150,000 in damage after a fire Friday evening, said Fire Battalion Chief Brad Boyd.
A neighbor in the 9400 block of West Nantucket, just northwest of 13th and Tyler, called 911 at around 5:45 p.m. Friday to report fire and smoke coming through the roof near the rear of the house, Boyd said.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and throw tarps over some personal effects to protect them from damage, Boyd said.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire, Boyd said. Extensive damage was sustained in the rear of the house: approximately $100,000 in structural damage and $50,000 of damage to property, he said.
Firefighters at the scene said it is believed the residents of the house were in Texas on Friday night.
