Police say pair tried to pawn fake gold

A 33-year-old Oklahoma man was booked Friday on three counts of suspected theft by deception, according to Sgt. Steve Yarberry, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

Wichita police were called to the Easy Money Pawn Shop at 2525 S. Oliver shortly after 1 p.m. after receiving a report two people had tried to pawn fake gold at the shop.

Yarberry said police found numerous receipts from other Wichita area pawn shops in the man's car.

Yarberry said a 42-year-old woman was also listed as a suspect in the case but was not booked.

"Area pawn shops should be aware this is going on and call 911 if they feel they are receiving fake gold," Yarberry said.
