Boy taken to Wichita hospital after accidental shooting in Cowley County
An 8-year-old boy is at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita after being struck in the chest with a ricocheting bullet in Cowley County, Sheriff Don Read said in an e-mailed release.
The boy was target shooting with his father at their home in Maple City, about 20 miles east of Arkansas City, shortly before 11:30 a.m. Friday, according to the release.
After the boy was struck, the father began transporting him to South Central Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City. Along the way, he was met by EMS units, who transported the boy the rest of the way.
He was later transferred to Wesley. In the statement, authorities did not release the boy’s condition.
