Augusta High School to bring in counselors

Counselors will be available at Augusta High School this morning to help students mourning the death of freshman Andrea M. Young.

The 14-year-old girl was shot to death Friday night at an under-age drinking party in Augusta. A 25-year-old man who was hosting the event has been arrested and booked into the Butler County Jail on a count of involuntary manslaughter, Augusta Police Chief Tyler Brewer said.

A school official said Sunday night that adults at the school will be paying close attention to any grief her peers may express.

"Principals will be meeting with the staff first thing in the morning," said John Black, deputy superintendent of the Augusta school district. "They will be giving teachers instructions on how to visit with the students."

The high school has approximately 700 students.
