COVID-19 cases stop football and homecoming activities at Derby
Derby High School football has been suspended because of coronavirus.
On Friday, Derby Public Schools said it was suspending football at the Sedgwick County Health Department’s “strong recommendation” until close contact tracing of COVID-19 cases and other “next steps” can be completed.
Eight cases have been tied to the football team.
“Due to an increase in additional positive cases of COVID-19 at Derby High School, Derby Public Schools is suspending all football-related activities at Derby High School,” the school district tweeted at around 12:30 p.m. “Tonight’s Homecoming festivities have been canceled and will be rescheduled.”
The Derby Panthers’ football team was scheduled for a home game Friday against Salina South.
“This is a joint decision with Salina Public Schools,” the tweet said. “A date has not been determined at this point when football may resume.”
