Sedgwick County COVID-19 Update

The Sedgwick County Health Department reported 41 new cases and one new death on Monday. Those increases were since the Sunday report. The county has now had 8,066 confirmed cases and 82 deaths.

Discrepancies in the county’s case total between the state and local health departments can be due to delays in reporting between the agencies. Additionally, the county only lists confirmed cases while the state includes probable cases.

The county reported one new coronavirus cluster at a religious institution and two more at businesses. There have been 49 clusters in the county, of which 27 are no longer active. The outbreaks account for 50 of the 82 deaths, which was an increase of one.

There have been 596 more people tested, bringing the total to 97,191. The positive test rate was listed at 4.88% as of Saturday, which the county’s graph of the rolling 14-day average lists as the first time since June 24 that it was below 5%.

The health department on Monday made a change to how they report ages in their demographic information. The county now uses the same age groups as the KDHE, which are mostly ranges of 10 years, after previously using ranges of 20 years.

Under the old reporting system, the 20-39 age group had the most cases in the county. Under the new system, the 25-34 group has the most, followed by 18-24.

The age groups under the old system as of Sunday:

  • 0-19: 1,112 cases;
  • 20-39: 3,404 cases;
  • 40-59: 2,261 cases;
  • 60-79: 961 cases;
  • 80 and older: 287 cases.
