Here are all 78 active coronavirus clusters in Kansas identified by the KDHE

Public health officials have identified several active coronavirus clusters in the state.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment named 78 locations with active outbreaks of COVID-19, though the agency reported 177 active clusters on Wednesday. It was the first time the state identified active clusters with this list, though less than half were on it.

The full list of active cluster locations identified by the KDHE is available below, or online under the cluster summary tab of the health department’s dashboard at www.coronavirus.kdheks.gov/160/COVID-19-in-Kansas.

While the 177 active clusters account for 5,099 cases, 192 hospitalizations and 63 deaths, hospitalizations and deaths were not listed for individual clusters. Two of the deaths were connected to businesses and 12 were from meatpacking plants. The other 49 deaths come from nursing homes.

KDHE criteria for being named on the list excluded all private event gatherings because of privacy reasons. It also excluded home-based daycares for privacy reasons. Meatpacking plants and businesses were only included if they had 20 or more cases in their cluster. The case threshold was set at five or more for all other types of clusters.

The criteria kept all three daycare clusters off the list, as well as all 16 private events, with active clusters.

While there were 29 private businesses plus seven meatpacking plants with outbreaks, there were nine locations named from those two categories.

The state also reports four active clusters at schools, but only had two on the list of locations. There are eight active sports clusters, but only six were on the list.

The list had 26 of 57 nursing home clusters, six of 10 at health care facilities, one of two at group living facilities, six of seven at correctional facilities and 15 of 26 at colleges or universities.

The list also had all four outbreaks at religious gatherings, the one at a church camp, the one at a public event and the one outbreak in government. It did not have the one bar or restaurant that has an active cluster.

The KDHE will remove clusters from its list when they are no longer considered active, which is typically once 28 days have passed without any new cases.
