Five more deaths and 192 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Sedgwick County

Five more people in the Wichita area have died from the coronavirus disease.

The Sedgwick County Health Department’s COVID-19 dashboard showed five new deaths with a total of 55 as of Thursday.

The county also reported 192 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 7,162. It was the first time the county’s case report passes 7,000 cases. Another 929 people have been tested, bringing the total to 81,765.

The positive test percentage jumped nearly a full percentage point. The rolling 14-day average was 9.03% for Wednesday, which is the most recent day available. The number had originally been listed at 8.05% for Tuesday before being revised up.

Of the 192 new cases, 109 were close contacts of another confirmed case. The other 83 are still under investigation for the source of exposure to the virus.

More than half of the new cases were patients in the 20-39 age group, which added 100 cases. The infant to 19-year-old age group added 21, the 40-59 group added 55, the 60-79 group added 11 and the 80 and older group had five new cases.
