Coronavirus updates: Sedgwick County residents ages 20-39 continue to see most cases

On Saturday, the Sedgwick County Health Department reported an increase of 102 cases from the day before, bringing the total to 4,818. Deaths held at 44.

Sedgwick County has had 60,951 people tested. Overall, that leaves a total percent positive of about 7.9%. The statewide percent positive is 9.7%. Sedgwick County hit a high of about 14% on July 23 before it started to mostly drop. The figure is based on a rolling 14-day average.

Of the 102 new cases, the largest age group to see a jump was ages 40-59, which saw a jump of 34 cases. Ages 20-39 saw the second-largest jump with 28 new cases.

Those two age groups have the most cases and account for roughly 70% of the cases, with the 20-39 being the leader with about 41% of the total.

The age group with the third most cases is 0-19, which has 696 cases, or about 14% of the total.

Active cases in Sedgwick County continues to climb. It hit 2,884 on Friday, the latest day available. Active cases are cases minus recoveries and deaths.

More than 60% of Sedgwick County’s deaths have been attributed to clusters at long-term care facilities. The figure could be much higher, but specifics on deaths are not regularly reported.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The latest figures listed 30,638 cases and 380 deaths in Kansas.

Kansas has a testing rate of 108.64 per 1,000 people, according to the KDHE, which lists Sedgwick County with a rate of 100.5.
